The Shuttlesworth Human Rights Award Celebration is the major annual fundraiser for the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. This award recognizes an individual whose work exemplifies the principles of Rev. Shuttles- worth and the civil rights movement. Your sponsorship will support the BCRI mission to:

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI) is a museum, a place of research, a teaching facility and a learn- ing center for people of all ages and backgrounds. Since opening in 1992, BCRI has been visited by over 2 million people from all 50 states and around the world. BCRI actively engages visitors, community and social media audiences in understanding the relationship between contemporary topics and the historic struggle for racial equality.

The Honoree: Attorney Vernon E. Jordan

Attorney Vernon E. Jordan – civil rights trailblazer, advisor to presidents, business leader, and global states- man – will receive the 2015 Shuttlesworth Award. A former director of both the National Urban League and the United Negro College Fund, Jordan’s life of service reflects his commitment to equity, personal dignity and human rights.

The Entertainment: Legendary Singer and Songwriter Smokey Robinson

With a career spanning 50 years, Smokey Robinson continues to thrill audiences around the globe with his smooth tenor voice and on-stage charisma. With more than 4,000 songs to his credit, Robinson’s stellar career was launched at Motown. Robinson recorded 27 hit singles as lead singer for the Miracles and wrote chart- topping songs for Marvin Gaye, Mary Wells, and the Temptations.

Doors open at 6 with the show beginning at 7. Tickets are available 9/25 at 10am through Ticketmaster.

The Historic Alabama Theatre is a Ticketmaster facility.

Why can't I buy from somewhere else?
If there is a problem with your ticket, the only way that we can look it up in the ticketing system is if it was purchased from Ticketmaster. You must be able to show identification that matches the name on the ticket, show the account number that was used to purchase the ticket or show the credit card that was used for purchase. It is possible for the purchaser of valid tickets to transfer them to another buyer through Ticketmaster.com or the Ticketmaster app.

SMOKING IS PROHIBITED THROUGHOUT THE THEATRE AND ITS BACKSTAGE AREA INCLUDING DRESSING ROOMS.

No weapons of any kind are allowed in the Alabama Theatre.
All guests will be scanned with metal detectors and bags will be checked before entry to the building.
