Alabama Theatre’s New Year’s Eve 90th Birthday Bash featuring Sister Hazel and Taylor Hicks

We’re excited to invite you to the party of the year — and be a part of history! We’ll be celebrating 90 years of the Alabama Theatre with Sister Hazel and Taylor Hicks while ushering in 2018 and finally flipping the switch on the brand new 18th Street ALABAMA sign.
WHAT: Alabama Theatre New Year’s Eve 90th Birthday Bash featuring Sister Hazel & Taylor Hicks.
WHEN: December 31, 2017. Doors open at 7 p.m. and show begins at 8 p.m. The show will conclude at 11:30 p.m., just in time for guests to go outside and watch the new 18th Street Sign light up for the first time at midnight.

TICKETS: Available November 10 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster ($29.50 / $39.50 / $49.50 / $62.50 plus fees).
At the end of the show guests will be ushered outside to count down to midnight to view the unveiling of the new 18th Street ALABAMA sign from a special front and center location.
Paid for with local funds raised by the Junior Board of Birmingham Landmarks, along with significant donations from Gold sponsors Alabama Power and Regions Bank and Silver sponsors Altec, Bradley Arant, CAWACO, Gray Construction, Cindy and Ken Rhoden, ServisFirst Bank, Southpace, Wells Fargo and Wiggins Child Pantazis, the sign replaces the original that has been missing from 18th Street since 1957.
Local funding was supplemented with a Partners in Preservation grant from the National Trust. Nominated by REV Birmingham, the Alabama Theatre was named a top 25 finalist in the Partners in Preservation: Main Streets campaign in September and received over 54,000 votes by October 31 to earn a place in the top 10 and $120,000 to aid the sign replacement fund.
“The Alabama Theatre has survived 90 years because of dedicated customers and generous gifts from our local corporate and philanthropic community,” says Brant Beene, Executive Director of Birmingham Landmarks, Inc. “They sponsor our shows, restore our theatres, buy tickets to events, make donations and, in this most recent example, voted for us every day during the grant campaign contest. We even have some who come to every single movie we show during the Visit South Walton Summer Film Series. We hope you’ll all join us on New Year’s Eve for this concert and to unveil the new sign. We wouldn’t be here celebrating 90 years without this community-wide support!”
The Alabama Theatre opened on December 26, 1927 as a silent movie palace. Originally intended to show Paramount films, the Alabama now hosts a wide range of events including concerts, graduations, dance recitals and seasonal movie series- including the wildly popular annual PNC Holiday Film Series. 2017 will go down in history as the most successful year for the Alabama yet, hosting over 100 events by year’s end- including 20 national touring acts.
About Sister Hazel:
Originating from Gainesville, FL, Sister Hazel is comprised of five gifted, seasoned musicians whose well-spring of natural talent has been called “one of the Top 100 Most Influential Independent Performers of the last 15 years” by Performing Songwriter Magazine. Song “All for You” topped the adult alternative charts during the summer of 1997 and the success propelled their album to platinum status. Sister Hazel has been equally attentive to connecting with their audience through social media. Taylor Hicks is one of the most beloved and popular AMERICAN IDOL winners of all time. From the start, Hicks’ material on the mega-hit show set him apart, with a unique take on Southern soul, R & B, country and blues. Sixty-four million votes were cast and nearly 37 million American viewers and more than 200 million viewers worldwide tuned in to crown Hicks the Season 5 winner of AMERICAN IDOL, making it one of the most-watched TV events of the last decade.
Hicks, who hails from Birmingham, Ala., had music on his mind from childhood. As a young adult, he became a fixture around the Southeast, playing concerts and club dates with visiting stars like James Brown, Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, Robert Randolph, Keb’ Mo’ and Widespread Panic, among others. Hicks also released the independent albums “In Your Time” and “Under the Radar.” Later, these albums were compiled and released by Vanguard Records as “Early Works.”
Hicks has also performed with artists like Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg, Gladys Knight, Earth Wind and Fire and The Allman Brothers, appearing in concerts worldwide.
The Historic Alabama Theatre is a Ticketmaster facility.

Why can't I buy from somewhere else?
If there is a problem with your ticket, the only way that we can look it up in the ticketing system is if it was purchased from Ticketmaster. You must be able to show identification that matches the name on the ticket, show the account number that was used to purchase the ticket or show the credit card that was used for purchase. It is possible for the purchaser of valid tickets to transfer them to another buyer through Ticketmaster.com or the Ticketmaster app.
