Opening Night At The Alabama Theatre - Third Avenue

This painting, the second in the Alabama Theatre series, shows the exterior of the theatre at dusk, shortly before showtime with the original marquee showing the opening night program. Extensive research was done to insure that the painting was an authentic reproduction of the period. The businesses shown were actually in operation in 1927. Automobile manufacturers were asked to submit pictures of their 1927 model cars so the flavor of the time period would be accurately represented.

The Alabama Theatre, built by the Publix division of Paramount Pictures to showcase their films, has been a downtown landmark on Third Avenue for over eighty years.

This painting was commissioned by Limbaugh Chevrolet and all proceeds benefit the Alabama Theatre for the Performing Arts.
